In order to show the abundant geological sites of Stone Forest to the tourists and promote the spreading of Stone Forest karst geoscience, on December 12, the activity of “science popularization talents two-day tour of Stone Forest free of charge to write science popularization travel notes to win rewards” was held on schedule in Stone Forest Scenic Area. The science popularization talents consisting of the netizens of everywhere registered on line and honored guests from College of Resources, Environment and Geoscience Yunnan University entered Stone Forest to start the two-day tour of “science popularization”.

Stone Forest of Yunnan is the only wonder of karst landforms located in subtropical plateau area in the world. With the karst landform community of the Paleozoic Era with long history of evolution, large area of distribution, complete types and special forms in the world, it is the center of South China karst world natural heritage. On the morning of December 12, the science popularization talents visited Stone Forest Karst Geological Museum first to experience the evolution of karst from the perspectives of understanding the evolution history of the earth and knowing about resources on the earth. They visited seven themed exhibition halls including the Exhibition Area for Karst Evolution and Cave Stone, Exhibition Area for the Development History of Creatures on the Earth, Exhibition Area for Physical Makeup of the Crust and Resources, Exhibition Area for Jade Stone and Stained Stone, Exhibition Area for Phenomena of Geological Effect, Exhibition Area for Culture of Ornamental Stone and Famous Wood and Ebony Exhibition Area. In the grand exhibition hall, nearly 10,000 rare treasures including stalactite, fossil organism, minerals, meteorite, jade, ornamental stone and famous trees provided the netizen talents a grand visual feast while making the experts from the College of Resources, Environment and Geoscience Yunnan University acclaim!

On the afternoon, the science popularization talents experienced the Science Investigation Tour Line of the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest Scenic Areas (Greater Stone Forest Scenic Area – Liziyuan Valley Stone Forest – Time-honored Ganoderma Lucidum – Bushao (Sentry) Mountain – Ashima of Lesser Stone Forest) with the main purpose to study and view the types of landscapes in Stone Forest, the sites of development and evolution of Stone Forest and different stages of development and evolution. In particular, with the comments provided by the experts, many special geological wonders such as the geological lines formed in Stone Forest and conservation of marine benthic organism from the ancient times aroused great interest of the netizen talents.
